China wants to procure a large number of drones as a Chinese drone manufacturer revealed after clinching a massive government contract. The manufacturer asserted that it has to deliver one million Kamikaze drones by 2026. The major shift on unmanned aerial systems highlights the strategy of dragons and the importance of these drones in modern warfare.

Addition of drones reflects the dominance of these unmanned vehicles and how it will start a new era in the Chinese military which would come with new strategies in the battlefield.

Dependency on loitering munitions is not a new development. If we go by an example of India, the nation has operated systems like Harop for several years but it is not affordable as its prices are high. The countries do not want to go with costlier products in war zones to keep themselves ahead. Now, these drones will play a pivotal role.

Every country has found drones as an asset. Firstly, the drones can hover over the target for long and it strikes with precision that can be beneficial in both the strategic forms-offense and defense. These drones have become gamechanger and it has the capability to alter the power dynamics in the battlefield.

In the ongoing Israel-Gaza war, drones were often used by Houthis, Hezbollah and Hamas militants as tools to target Israeli troops and their bases. It shows how drones played an important role where its effectiveness pushed the opposite side on backfoot and yielded results in favour of these groups.

Ukraine has also used First-view-Person (FPV) and loitering munitions against Russia. FPV drones are required highly skilled operators who are well trained to handle it with precision and knowledge.
