Bangladesh has invited a team of the Pakistani Army to provide training to its soldiers. After 53 years since the 1971 India-Pak war, the Pakistani Army will make its entry into Bangladesh once again. An officer of Major General rank of Pakistan’s Army will oversee the training of soldiers of Bangladesh’s Army.
According to reports, the training will commence in February 2025. The first phase of training will take place at Momenshahi Cantonment in Army Training and Doctrine Command headquarters. The first phase of training will be completed in one year. Later, the Pak Army will also provide training to all 10 commands of Bangladesh Army.
Pakistan Army’s Joint chief of staff committee’s chairman General Shahir Shamshad Mirza had sent a training proposal to Bangladesh in November. The proposal was accepted by Bangladesh Army chief Waker-Uz-Zaman who then extended a formal invitation to the Pakistan Army to conduct training for its soldiers.
Bangladesh has also ordered arms and ammunition from Pakistan. Between September to December, Bangladesh had ordered 40,000 rounds of ammunition. It is three times the quantity compared to last year. The nation had ordered 12000 rounds of ammunition last year. Beside this, the country also ordered 2000 rounds of tank ammunition and 40 tonnes RDX.
The Bangladesh Navy will hold a joint exercise along with the Pakistan Navy at Karachi Port. The joint exercise has been named as ‘Aman 2025.’ After 15 years of gap, Bangladesh is taking part in such an exercise. During Sheikh Hasina’s regime, Bangladesh did not take part in the exercise. Hasina, even, did not allow to halt Pakistan’s Taimur warship.
A Defense expert raised his apprehension over the closeness of two countries. He is of the view that Bangladesh could be a menace for the Siliguri corridor. It connects the North East region with the rest of India. He also added that it will increase the threat of Islamic radicals on the Eastern side if their proximity increases over the period of time.
