Baby John box office collection day 1: Varun Dhawan-starrer Baby John was released on Wednesday, December 25. The film attempts to blend emotions, action, and music with a meaningful message. However, it noticeably lacks one crucial element – entertainment. The mass action film also features Keerthy Suresh, Wamiqa Gabbi, Jackie Shroff, and Rajpal Yadav in prominent roles, with a special cameo by Salman Khan in the post-climax scene. Directed by Kalees, Baby John has received mixed reviews from critics and audiences alike. While the film reflects Atlee’s signature style of grandeur and emotional depth, it falls short of delivering a fresh and unique cinematic experience.
Baby John is a scene-by-scene remake of the Tamil movie Theri, which starred Vijay, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Amy Jackson, Nainika, Radhika Sarathkumar, and Rajendran. Despite the comparisons, Varun Dhawan has managed to achieve a significant milestone in his career with this film. According to trade website Sacnilk, Baby John earned Rs 12.50 crore on its opening day, marking Varun’s best opening in the last five years.
Previously, Varun’s 2019 release Kalank, a multi-starrer featuring Alia Bhatt, Madhuri Dixit, Sanjay Dutt, Aditya Roy Kapur, and Sonakshi Sinha, had grossed Rs 21.60 crore on its first day. However, Varun’s more recent theatrical releases, including Street Dancer 3D (2020), Jug Jugg Jeeyo (2022), and Bhediya (2022), failed to achieve double-digit openings.
- Street Dancer 3D earned Rs 10.26 crore at the domestic box office on its opening day
- Jug Jug Jeeyo earned Rs 9.28 crores at the domestic box office on its opening day
- Bhediya opened at Rs 7.48 crore
